11:13 PM

Today was sweltering hot, a large contrast with the recent spate of alternate rain/sun weather. Even the aircon in the bus that I took was of no help, with the strong sun penetrating the windows and the high humidity.

Needless to say, I was sweating like crazy. It felt both uncomfortable and familiar at the same time. Uncomfortable was because it was so hot, and made me sweat. It was also familiar, however, because it is the signature Singaporean weather, one which I have grown up in, having not really known spring, autumn or winter before in my life.

It then occurred to me that this might be one of the last really sunny days I would experience before leaving for 6 months, and I found that I really wanted to remember this particular mix of humidity and heat, which to me is one of the defining characteristics of my hometown. Everyone who has lived (and sweated) in Singapore would agree, I'm sure.

I wish I could bottle this up and bring it over, so that when I am experiencing the bitter cold winter that Europe has to offer, the memory of this blistering hot afternoon can remind me of what home feels like. :)
